Giulio Conti, a well-known silk entrepreneur and shrewd businessman, rose early in his lavish villa overlooking Lake Como. The villa—an elegant example of neoclassical architecture—stood majestically on the lakeshore, surrounded by lush gardens that stretched down to the water’s edge, where the lake shimmered like liquid silver in the morning sun.
The structure was imposing, with large glass windows letting in the daylight, and marble columns adorning the facade, lending it a solemn yet captivating air. The roof was covered with dark slate tiles, while wrought-iron terraces offered breathtaking views of the lake below.
Outside, the gardens of the villa were meticulously maintained, showcasing a perfect blend of nature and art. Gravel paths wound through colorful flowerbeds—roses, azaleas—filling the air with a delicate fragrance mingling with the lake’s fresh scent.
Tall cypress trees dotted the grounds, providing shade along the walkways. Classical statues and small fountains were artfully placed amid the greenery, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The garden sloped gently down to the shore, where a small dock housed a boat ready to glide across the lake’s calm waters.
Giulio stepped out onto the main terrace, where the household staff had already prepared a breakfast table.
A white linen tablecloth covered it, embellished by porcelain dishes and silverware gleaming in the morning light.On a silver tray were freshly baked pastries, homemade jams, fresh fruit, and a still-steaming coffee pot. Sitting down, Giulio inhaled deeply, taking in the cool air and the floral aromas—a combination that seemed to energize him for the day ahead.
From the terrace, the view was enchanting: the lake lay tranquil, framed by mountains reflected in the crystal-clear water. Small ferries slowly traversed the horizon, leaving silvery trails, and the city of Como lay in the distance, silent and still half-asleep.......
