rMIX: Il Portale del Riciclo nell'Economia Circolare - Shadows of Ambition. Chapter 11: The Swiss Track
Summary

Chapter 11 opens with a moment of apparent calm: Lucia Marini reflects on the recent revelations, trying to put her thoughts in order after a day full of tensions. However, this calm is soon interrupted by an unexpected invitation from Alessandro Bianchi, the pilot of the seaplane, who proposes an evening in Bellagio, far from the heavy questions of the investigation.

While Lucia accepts with surprise and a hint of hesitation, the plot is enriched with new investigative developments. The analysis of some evidence confirms disturbing links between the castle, the mysterious injured man and a found body, opening new questions about a network of secrets that seems to cross national borders. The appearance of a name linked to a Swiss accountant, Thomas Müller, suggests that the trail could lead to transactions and business of an international nature, casting a shadow on what Lucia is trying to unmask.

Meanwhile, the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of Lake Como becomes the perfect backdrop for a mix of introspection, lighthearted moments, and a constant call to duty. Alessandro, immersed in his passions for flying and boats, offers a glimpse of his life full of freedom and adventure, a stark contrast to Lucia’s determination to bring the truth to light.

Tales. Shadows of Ambition. Chapter 11: The Swiss Trail

After a day filled with tension and unsettling discoveries inside the castle of Corenno Plinio, Lucia Marini sought refuge on the quiet terrace of her hotel, trying to organize her thoughts over a cup of hot tea. The serenity of the lake at sunset offered a brief respite from the pressures of the investigation, but her mind remained intensely focused on awaiting the results of the analyses entrusted to the Carabinieri.

While she was deep in thought, Paolo, the hotel owner, approached with a look of discreet concern.

Paolo: “Commissioner Marini, sorry to bother you, but there’s a phone call for you. Someone who urgently wishes to speak with you.”

Lucia: “Thank you, Paolo. I’ll head to the reception right away. Please excuse me.”

Leaving her tea behind, Lucia hurried to the telephone, curiosity and slight worry stirring inside her about the nature of such an urgent call. She lifted the receiver with a hint of apprehension.

Lucia: “Commissioner Marini speaking. Good evening. Who am I speaking to?”

Alessandro Bianchi: “Good evening, Commissioner. This is Alessandro Bianchi, the seaplane pilot. I hope I’m not disturbing you, but I wanted to extend an invitation.”

Lucia’s voice betrayed her surprise—she hadn’t expected a call like this during such a loaded moment.

Lucia: “Good evening, Mr. Bianchi. No, you’re not disturbing me at all. What kind of invitation is this?”

Alessandro: “Well, I was thinking... after all these intense events and the investigation you’re conducting—I’m sure you know it’s become the talk of the town—maybe you’d like an evening of relaxation. I’d like to invite you to dinner in Bellagio tomorrow evening. I think a bit of a break might do you good.”

Lucia: “That’s very kind of you, Mr. Bianchi. I have to admit the idea of taking a break from the investigation is tempting. I gladly accept your invitation. Thank you.”

Alessandro: “Perfect, Commissioner. I’m happy you’ve accepted. We’ll meet tomorrow evening, then. I’ll give you more details later. Have a good evening and… try to rest.”

Lucia: “Thank you, Mr. Bianchi. See you tomorrow night. Have a good evening as well.”

Hanging up, Lucia allowed herself a smile, surprised by her own positive response to the invitation. As she returned to the terrace to finish her tea, she reflected on how a night away from the pressures of the investigation might genuinely offer new perspective and, perhaps, the energy to face the challenges that lay ahead with renewed vigor.

Sipping thoughtfully, Lucia let herself be captivated by the twilight calm enveloping the lake. As the sky took on shades of pink and violet, her thoughts inevitably turned to Alessandro Bianchi, the seaplane pilot who had invited her to dinner in Bellagio. She recalled the man’s assured demeanor and disarming smile, which warmed Lucia’s heart in an unexpected way......
