Code: 10880. We specialize in the restoration of antique tapestries, very precious and at the same time fragile fabrics.
Tapestries are textile works of great value, which in past centuries represented symbols of wealth and power. Their value was further enhanced by their imposing size and the use of precious yarns, such as gold and silver.
The technique of making tapestries is particularly interesting: the decorative pattern is not obtained with a continuous weave from one end to the other, but each weave passage is limited to the areas where a certain color is needed, thus creating the design.
Restoring tapestries is a complex and fascinating process, often capable of revealing surprising results. The large dimensions require extreme care in movements, making it necessary to carry out each phase of the restoration with the utmost care and precision.
The first phases of the intervention consist of an in-depth study of the tapestry and its superficial cleaning.
Subsequently, we proceed with checking the stability of the colours and making the most damaged areas safe.
The tapestry is then washed by immersion in specially prepared tanks, and the actual restoration work begins, which can be conservative or integrative, depending on the condition of the fabric and the owner's decisions.
