Code: 10888. I deal with the conservative restoration of antique and valuable tapestries that form integral parts of furniture and wall furnishings.
Fabrics used for upholstery include historical coverings of armchairs, sofas, cushions, screens and canopies . In addition, there are wall hangings that cover the entire surface of the walls of a room.
These coverings can vary greatly in decoration, materials, fabric type and intrinsic characteristics, as the fabrics adapt to the shape of the objects they cover and are often stretched to improve their aesthetic appearance.
These artifacts often combine very different materials, such as metal studs, wool or straw padding, and wooden or metal structures.
Prolonged tension on the fabrics can cause the fibres to weaken, making careful restoration work necessary.
The restoration begins with the study of the technique of making the basic fabric, the assembly and a scrupulous preliminary analysis of the state of conservation.
Afterwards, the intervention is planned and the materials to be used are carefully chosen. Appropriate conservation techniques will be applied, respecting the integrity of the artifact, to make it accessible again and preserved over time.
