The separation tank for plastic waste can, for example, concern the separation of PP/PE in PET bottle recycling processes, as the pre-crushed material is fed with the 'help of 2 augers in the separation tank under the surface of the water.

Since PET is heavier than water, it sinks into the discharge device for sedimentation and is subsequently discharged from the machine via a screw or scraping chain conveyor.

PP and PE instead rise to the surface of the water and are moved towards the discharge of the floating materials through a series of successive paddle drums.

During this process they are repeatedly pushed underwater to obtain the separation of any PET particles still adhered.

A friction washer is normally placed downstream of the separation tank, as this allows the separation of large quantities of liquids from the material.
