rMIX: Il Portale del Riciclo nell'Economia Circolare - Post Industrial and Post Consumer Recycled PP: where it comes from and what it is

What is the Recycled PP (Polypropylene) and where does it come from?

Polypropylene (PP) recycled is a thermoplastic polymer that is divided into isotactic and atactic, where the largest used by the plastic industry is the isotactic one, which has a low density (around 900 kg./m3), a high load of rupture, a melting point around 165 ° C, good mechanical and abrasion resistance.

The birth of polypropylene is due to the studies of the Nobel laureates Giulio Natta and Karl Ziegler at the Montecatini laboratories.

The production of post-consumer PP granules begins with the collection of flexible and rigid packaging that is selected during the sorting of household waste.

The packaging is divided into types and characteristics: ground, washed, densified and granulated.

This last phase allows the creation of types of granules with different characteristics based on the entry of waste into the extruders.

In particular, the PP / PE compounds are produced with different percentages of PP, from 15% to 90%, with the possibility of adding mineral fillers such as CaCO3 or talc in standard solutions.

Furthermore, it is possible to have a family of PP granules with better technical characteristics and with reduced odor and a wide range of dark colors.

The PP granule from post-industrial waste is produced through twin-screw extruders that amalgamate the industrial waste according to standard recipes or requested by the customer.

PP Post industrial waste consists of processing trimmings made with virgin polymers, non-compliant pieces, color changes, end-of-series waste or defective pieces.

In this case, real Compounds can be created by modifying, for example, the elastic modulus, the IZOD, the color, the density, the fluidity and other parameters required by the customer.

It is also possible to produce granules for aesthetic applications and in the absence of even neutral odors.

The study of the best recipe always starts from the customer's need for the expected result on the finished product.

It is possible to create colors close to the required RAL and add with fillers in Caco3, Talc, Fiberglass.

On the rMIX recycling portal you will find offers and requests for recycled PP in granules, ground, densified and in bales.
