rMIX: Il Portale del Riciclo nell'Economia Circolare - Joint Venture in the field of Plastic Pharmaceutical Packaging

Two companies united to improve the commercial and production offer of plastic packaging

You're never old enough when you want to improve yourself and your company, you are never efficient enough if you want to provide first-rate customer service, you are never capillary enough when you want to be nearby, in every part of the world, to your customers, you never stop refining your environmental performance when you want to minimize your company's environmental impact.

From these and other commitments and objectives, we can think that the joint venture was born and an international group, specialized in the production of recycled plastic granules and market leader in HDPE and PET packaging, with a company focused on the international pharmaceutical packaging sector.

The goal of the joint venture is the production, already in 2023, of 800 million of packaging products and to triple them within the new five-year development plan.

The companies participating in this agreement are ALPLA, which is expanding its presence in the global pharmaceutical packaging market and the Spanish Inden Pharma.

ALPLA, the international plastic packaging and recycling specialist, and the internationally renowned Spanish pharmaceutical packaging company Inden Pharma, are, as mentioned, launching a long-term partnership for the certified production of bottles, containers and closures in clean rooms.

The joint venture includes two production sites of ALPLApharma in Greece (Koropi) and Poland (Żyrardów) and the two Spanish plants of Inden Pharma in Ibi, north of Alicante, as well as a fifth plant in Germany (Markdorf) jointly built, which is scheduled to start production in June.

“We combine global presence with high standards and technological leadership. Together, we are even closer to our customers and are expanding our range of high-quality, cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions,” says Philipp Lehner, CEO of ALPLA.

Since entering the rapidly growing pharmaceutical packaging market in 2016, ALPLA has continuously expanded into new countries, technologies and product categories.

Inden Pharma is also focused on strong growth. Over the past four years, the company has tripled its sales to reach 30.5 million euros in 2022. Inden Pharma sells more than 550 million containers every year in 35 countries on 5 continents.

Technological advantage and increased capacity

In the five jointly managed plants, around 800 million packages will be produced in the first year. The standard products offered by Inden Pharma will be integrated into the joint catalog of ALPLApharma and Inden Pharma products, reaching an offer of over 150 items.

It is also planned to expand the business to other places outside Europe in the future, such as India, the United States or Central and South America.

“Our international customers benefit from a greater variety of installations, proximity, high flexibility, as well as the service and quality in deliveries that has been usual in recent years . It is a real challenge, not only for Inden Pharma, but for the entire joint venture organization, since our goal is to achieve leadership in the pharmaceutical plastic packaging market over the next five years.

Walter Knes, managing director of ALPLApharma, underlines the importance of technology and know-how transfer: “We combine our strengths and our distribution networks, we use the most modern injection blow molding and extrusion techniques and can count on our long experience in recycling for future developments”.
