rMIX: Il Portale del Riciclo nell'Economia Circolare - The Mysteries of Oltrecolle. Chapter 15: The Leap into the Dark
Summary

In the fifteenth chapter of The Mysteries of Oltrecolle, Elena enters the heart of a city that seems to welcome her with an almost unreal tranquility. Elegant streets, harmonious squares, and kind faces convey an unexpected sense of belonging, but beneath that apparent calm, something deeper seems to lie. Every encounter, every word exchanged, hints at unwritten rules and a special attention paid to her.

Small, out-of-the-ordinary details raise unanswered questions, while the hospitality she's offered seems both generous and mysterious. Someone already knows about her, watching her without revealing himself. In this suspended reality, where time flows differently, Elena senses that every step is leading her toward an inevitable encounter. But when that will happen, and what she will truly discover, remains shrouded in the silence of Oltrecolle.

Between mirrorless inns and timeless squares: Elena's arrival in the secret heart of Oltrecolle

Stories. The Mysteries of Oltrecolle. Chapter 15: The Leap into the Dark

Immersed in the composed and diverse crowd that animated the street, Elena let her instincts guide her, following a broad and majestic avenue that opened beyond the maze of alleys she had been walking through until then. The avenue was a riot of leafy trees—plane trees and horse chestnuts with broad canopies, beneath which stretched rows of benches and flowerbeds. On either side, light-colored stone and red-brick buildings alternated with elegant Renaissance-era mansions, their facades decorated with stucco and frescoes that seemed freshly restored. Despite the absence of traffic, the street pulsated with life: children racing on antique-style bicycles, women strolling with wicker baskets, young people sitting on the steps, reading or chatting quietly.

As she advanced, Elena heard the city's noises become more lively, but never chaotic or unpleasant. Everything was governed by a spontaneous harmony, as if there were a tacit agreement among the inhabitants on how to share space and time.

Thus he arrived in a square that suddenly opened up like a beating heart in the center of that ancient neighborhood. The square was paved with large slabs of pale stone, with a large central fountain from which crystal-clear water gushed into a circular basin. All around, rows of shady trees sheltered the outdoor tables of an inn that, at a cursory glance, might have been reminiscent of a bar in one of Italy's historic city centers, but here everything seemed more refined, more welcoming, free of the jarring notes of our world.
