In the silent night of the hotel, Matteo is overcome by anxiety for Elena, weakened by a sudden and mysterious illness. His budding love for her grows deeper and more visceral, so much so that it invades his sleep. During a powerful and vivid dream, he finds himself walking with Elena along the rugged and fragrant trails of the Orobie Alps, toward the Capanna 2000 refuge. The climb becomes a hymn to life and rebirth, until a sudden storm transforms the walk into a nightmare of rain and thunder. The mountain, now hostile, puts the two protagonists to the test, pushing them to the limits of their strength. But waking up restores Matteo to a new awareness: one born only from the fear of losing someone you love.
Meanwhile, Elena faces the morning with renewed lightness, choosing to visit an ancient village in search of tranquility. There, among centuries-old stones and silences steeped in memories, she begins to glimpse with new eyes the complex web of events and characters surrounding her. But as she breathes in the charm of Cornello dei Tasso, a new uneasiness takes shape: nothing is as it seems, and the past grows ever more intricate.
Between revealing nightmares and regenerating awakenings, Matteo and Elena face their inner fears and the desire for rebirth in the silence of the mountain
Stories. The Mysteries of Oltrecolle. Chapter 11 A. In the Heart of the Storm
Between revealing nightmares and regenerating awakenings, Matteo and Elena face their inner fears and the desire for rebirth in the silence of the mountain.
After leaving Elena in her room, Matteo returned to the kitchen where he found his mother still busy tidying up. Matteo's face was marked by a worry he didn't try to hide. He approached the table and, in a low voice so as not to be heard by the other guests, told her in detail what had happened: Elena's sudden seizure, the tremors, the nausea, the weakness that had forced her to bed.
"Mom, do you think we should call Dr. Agazzi? I'm afraid Elena isn't just feeling sick from tiredness..." he asked, his uncertainty evident.
The mother, listening attentively to the account of her symptoms, nodded slowly, considering every detail. "You did well to bring her here and have her prepare something warm. But you know, Matteo, often after certain upheavals a little rest is enough, especially if Elena has already been seen by other doctors. If she doesn't feel better tomorrow morning, then we'll definitely call Dr. Agazzi. But for tonight, let's leave her alone, so she can rest without further worries. Let's see how she wakes up tomorrow."
Matteo, though still anxious, felt reassured by his mother's words, strengthened by the wisdom that came from years of experience welcoming and caring for people. "You're right, Mom, let's leave her alone tonight. I'll stop by and check on her tomorrow morning, as soon as I wake up."
