Construction of a technological platform for the recycling of plastic waste

Technip Energies (T.EN) , a leading company in engineering and technology for the energy transition, and Versalis, Eni's chemical company , have signed an agreement aimed at integrating Versalis' Hoop® technologies with Pure.rOilTM purification technologies and Pure.rGasTM by T.EN, constituting a technological platform for the advanced chemical recycling of plastic waste.

This technological platform allows for the creation of a theoretically infinite plastic recycling process , producing new virgin polymers suitable for all applications and identical to polymers coming from fossil raw materials.

Versalis contributes its proprietary Hoop® technology, a pyrolysis process that allows the recycling of mixed plastic waste with high performance in terms of yield, recovery and flexibility in the management of different types of feedstock.

T.EN contributes its expertise in designing ethylene furnaces and steam-crackers , with over 700 steam-crackers worldwide operating under its license, and proprietary preparation and purification technologies, Pure respectively. rGasTM and Pure.rOilTM, which ensure safe, reliable and optimized integration with existing and next-generation crackers.

The integrated technologies of Versalis and T.EN will help support the circular economy, reducing the overall carbon footprint in the polymer value chain.

“We are pleased to join forces with Versalis to commercialize our combined technologies for recycling plastic waste. This alliance will help strengthen Versalis and T.EN's leadership in the transformation of traditional commodity chemicals and polymers into sustainable and decarbonized products, facilitating the transition towards the circular economy" said Marco Villa , General Director of Technip Energies .

“We believe that partnerships are very effective growth accelerators, transforming synergies into the strength we all need to make our sector increasingly sustainable. This partnership with T.EN, which combines their respective innovative technologies in chemical recycling and long experience in industrial projects, will allow us to accelerate the implementation of concrete and effective solutions for plastic waste, to be then applied wherever there is an opportunity in global market”, declared Adriano Alfani , CEO of Versalis.
