Let's see how, in the most iconic of car competitions, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, only biofuels will be used.

The car race that takes place every year, in June, at the Le Mans circuit in France was born in 1923 and, there is no doubt, has made the history of car racing.

Through competitions, the automotive industry was shedding light on its customers, using racing as an advertising vehicle for its production models.

We remember excellent names in the automotive industry such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Ford, Bentley, Jaguar, Mercedes and many other and more recent brands that have walked the prestigious circuit.

Some drivers have now become legends, such as Tazio Nuvolari, Luigi Chinetti, Phil Hill, Olivier Gendebien, Ludovico Scarfiotti, Lorenzo Bandini, Bruce McLaren, Chris Amon, Jacky Ickx, Henri Pescarolo, Gérard Larrousse, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, Didier Pironi, Michele Alboreto, Stefan Johansson, Tom Kristensen and many others who competed at crazy speeds to make their team win.

The race also saw enormous tragedies, such as the accident in 1955 when a Mercedes literally flew over the track, landing in the crowd following the competition. There were 83 dead and 120 wounded.

But the Le Mans competition has always been seen as the technological battle between the manufacturers who, through the races, wanted to emphasize industrial capacity and mastery in produce winning, fast and charismatic models.

Car customers identified themselves, as in football, with their favorite brand, supporting its exploits and, the lucky ones who could afford such prestigious cars, made them a status symbol.

The intertwining between industry and sport has lasted for a long time, despite the fact that for some years car manufacturers have been seen as producers of pollutants and, therefore , that strong passionate partnership that existed before with cars has loosened.

In reality today we want to try to preserve that passion for the internal combustion engine, which has always fascinated the public, by looking for fuels that are fully respectful of the environment and not of petroleum derivation.

In fact, according to information from Total, a biofuel composed of agricultural processing residues, such as pomace and lees, called Excellium Racing 100, was created, which it has been approved by the FIA as a racing fuel.

It also meets the directives of car manufacturers with regard to engines, drivers for driveability and the European agency on renewable energy (RED).

All 60 cars that will race in Le Mans in 2022 will be refueled with this ecological fuel, demonstrating that passion and the environment are compatible, if you want.
