Hera Group has recently inaugurated Italy’s first facility dedicated to the recovery and reuse of this material, marking an important milestone for the circular economy in the advanced materials sector. This new plant provides a concrete solution for managing industrial waste and reducing the environmental impact of carbon fiber, a crucial resource in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and renewable energy.

The recycling technology used in the process is based on pyrolysis, a method that allows the separation of carbon fiber from the polymer matrix binding it. This process occurs in an oxygen-free environment, breaking down the resin without burning the fiber, thereby preserving its mechanical properties. The result is regenerated carbon fiber, reusable in new production cycles with performance similar to virgin material.

Thanks to this innovation, the new plant can process approximately 130 tons of waste per year, significantly reducing landfill waste and cutting CO₂ emissions compared to traditional disposal methods.
