Talking about thermal energy consumption is an imprecise concept, since energy is neither created nor destroyed, but transformed from one form to another. In industrial thermal processes, the energy of the fuel introduced into the boilers is divided into two components: a useful part for heating the process fluid (such as air, water, steam) and a waste part, associated with combustion fumes and other waste, generally dispersed in the external environment. These wastes, thanks to their thermodynamic characteristics (especially the temperature), can still be used in other thermal processes within the plant. It is possible to recover thermal energy from process waste, obtaining a significant saving on the overall fuel consumed and therefore an economic benefit.
