Helical mixers for plastic materials can be coated or heated using electrical resistors, and offered with bars with fixed or extractable elements. There is also a variant equipped with a perimeter gasket for specific uses. Their sizes vary from 2 millimeters to over 2 meters in diameter. The action of the first helical element causes the material to move in one direction, and then reverses the movement in the next element. This process generates an additional mixing effect, which helps to make the final product more uniform. The material is forced to completely reverse its direction, causing a continuous movement from the center to the internal wall of the container and vice versa. The absence of empty spaces and the extremely smooth surface, with an optimal surface finish (Ra 0.6 – 0.8), eliminate dead spots where the material could stagnate or deteriorate inside the mixer. This type of helical mixer is mainly used in the production of films or other polymeric materials, thanks to very tight tolerances and a perfect fit that prevents material accumulation.
